B.U.M.S., LLC stems from a desire to tell stories that wouldn’t be told otherwise. Carl Bauer, Fred Uhter, Matt Muehlebach and Leon Smith embarked on this journey of sharing Leon’s life and relationship with the NBA through Too Much Too Soon, their maiden project, and will be continuing to discover and produce other documentaries focused on people who don’t have a platform, but should.
Carl Bauer is the current Director of National Accounts at one of the largest auto-tech firms in the country, and a well-versed Advertising and Marketing specialist. He’s spent most of his adult career in the automotive industry, but has always been passionate about storytelling and is beginning his venture into filmmaking with Too Much Too Soon, a story very near and dear to his heart. Carl met Leon in 1984 at Lydia Children’s Home in Chicago. Carl’s mother, Doris, was the executive director of the home at the time that Leon and his brother were living there.
Matt Muehlebach, Co-Founder and Producer is the Vice President and general counsel of a prestigious venture capital firm in Tucson, Arizona. He met Carl through an officemate in 1999, and they connected over their love for sports as Matt played for one of the best college basketball teams alongside Steve Kerr and Kenny Lofton. The idea for BUMS LLC and Too Much Too Soon came to fruition when Carl visited Matt in December 2021, and from there the ball started rolling.
Fred Uhter is the Midwest Business Development Manager in Schaumburg, Illinois. Fred met Carl in 1993 working in Advertising and Marketing, and they were friendly over the years but reconnected in 2021 when he shared a documentary that he was working on, titled Where Are You, Jay Bennett? He is currently working on his fifth documentary, a deep dive into the blues and soul community, along with TMTS.
Leon Smith is the reason for the season, an ex-NBA player and current rapper who discovered how cutthroat the world of professional sports can really get. He is one of 29 high schoolers to ever be drafted first round into the NBA, and was ranked in the top ten players in the country for his junior and senior years of high school. Leon grew up in the foster system with his brother, Jerry, and met Carl and his parents during their time at Lydia Children’s Home in Chicago.
Jerry Sanders, RN, is an executive producer of TMTS and an integral part to the story. Jerry also grew up playing basketball, and was awarded a full ride D1 scholarship to NIU for basketball that he accepted before deciding to pursue a career in medicine and becoming a registered nurse. He is an avid gym-rat, and also dabbles in music, similar to his brother.
Claire Jackson is a graphic designer for BUMS LLC and executive producer of TMTS. She is based in Los Angeles, California, and is always open to new ways to express her creativity. Claire is a recent graduate from Point Loma Nazarene University, where she met Carl’s daughter, and recently joined the BUMS LLC team.
Jayne Bauer is a publicist and executive producer of TMTS. She is based in Chicago, Illinois and is passionate about the entertainment industry. Jayne has recently moved home after spending some time traveling abroad, and is excited about what’s next for BUMS LLC and TMTS.
